lift and slide handles with a very nice design.
Average sliding window prices
Sliding windows can be very personalized. For this reason, the
price of sliding windows depends on different variants, but I can assure you that in my experience this type of window is more expensive than fixed windows. Below I try to briefly summarize what sliding window prices are by material.
Average
sliding window prices:
- Material: pvc - Size: 1 sqm - Average price with insulating glass and VAT: about € 800;
- Material: wood - Size: 1 sqm - Average price with insulating glass and VAT: about € 900;
- Material: aluminum - Size: 1 sqm - Average price with insulating glass and VAT: about 1200 €.
How much does the installation of sliding windows cost?
The cost of labor alone to install sliding windows varies between 80 euros and 120 euros.
In my opinion, the most cost-effective way to install a
sliding window is to first ask several quotes from multiple suppliers to make your choice more aware. In this way you will have detailed information on costs and on the most competitive window companies in the area.
Sliding windows: which glass to choose?
What are the types of glass to choose from? I list here the information on the prices of
sliding glass windows :
- Single glass : with good resistance and suitable for outdoor environments without great need for insulation. Single tempered glass for sliding windows have prices around € 20 per square meter;
- Double glazing: called double glazing, it creates insulation and does not condense even if there is a great cold. Protects from noise, especially if mounted on sliding PVC windows. It costs about € 150 sq m;
- Triple glass : the best thermal and acoustic insulation. Very heavy, therefore not recommended for manual vertical sliding windows. It completely protects from the external cold. Sliding glass windows prices around € 200.
How to choose the color of the sliding windows?
Sliding window prices are important, but the color decision is also crucial and depends on the style of the house. I recommend sliding PVC windows coordinated with the floor in the case of a moden and minimal decor. In these situations, a retractable sliding window is ideal.
If the house has a rustic style, with wooden or stone elements, I suggest sliding PVC windows with a wood effect.
Why replace the sliding windows? The benefits, ecobonus and tax deductions
Are you thinking of getting new vertical sliding windows installed? You may decide to take advantage of the
Ecobonus and save on the price of PVC sliding windows. If you decide to purchase retractable sliding windows taking into account the ministerial requirements, you will be able to access this tax advantage.
In addition, your heating and cooling costs will noticeably go down. In fact, a sliding window with double or triple glazing can reduce heat waste by up to 40%.
In addition to the sliding windows price, don't forget the greater well-being that you can enjoy when you are near your new sliding window. An aspect as important as the prices of sliding windows.
The advantages of sliding windows
The fundamental purpose of the windows is to allow contact between the outside and the inside, guaranteeing light and air, protection from the cold and heat but also security and privacy.
It is important to correctly design the position and type of windows according to housing needs and also taking advantage of space-saving solutions. For this reason, nowadays sliding windows are becoming very common in homes and premises that also have outdoor spaces to enhance.A sliding window is able to connect the house to the outdoor space that surrounds it.
I point out that sliding windows are usually large sliding windows but they also have various advantages. When built properly they are easy to handle and durable. Furthermore, the sliding windows are safe and do not need constant maintenance.
The sliding windows allow large windows and obtain great brightness in the house. The particular structure does not usually clutter the inside of the house and allows air circulation.
What are the advantages of sliding windows at a glance?
- Easy to maneuver ;
- They last a long time;
- Little maintenance ;
- They are safe ;
- They create great brightness ;
- They allow you to cover large dimensions .
The types of sliding windows: what are the sliding systems?
There are several sliding systems for
internal sliding windows : below we see the main ones.
Horizontal sliding door: translating sliding window
In this case, the opening takes place through a horizontal translation movement. This window is made up of a fixed sash and a sliding sash that opens moving towards the inside or outside of the house and runs on rails parallel to the fixed sash.
This system has considerable advantages especially in the construction of large windows. In fact, the space in the room is zero, the visibility is excellent, it allows both passage and view, the maneuverability is easy.
The water and air tightness is guaranteed by the quality of the gaskets. On this point, I would like to emphasize how important it is to check the correct operation of the drop-off cover above the lower horizontal crosspiece, of the collection channel and of the drainage system.
It is an excellent solution for those with children or disabled people at home because the low threshold does not hinder the passage in the least.
It is possible to create compositions with two or more sliding doors without inserting vertical uprights.
The door hanging from the rails on the upper crosspiece does not undergo deformation due to the weight and this allows the creation of large lights.
These sliding windows are priced above average.
Advantages of the horizontal sliding door window:
- Easy opening maneuver even with large doors;
- Possibility of locking the door in intermediate positions to allow ventilation;
- Absence of interference with darkening systems;
- Good air and water tightness.
Defects of the horizontal sliding door window:
- Lower sliding track that obstructs the passage;
- If there are more doors, the ventilating surface is smaller than the illuminating one;
- Passage from outside for cleaning and maintenance;
- The bottom runners get dirty easily.
Vertical sliding door: lifting sliding window
Opening mechanism similar to the previous one, the difference lies in the movement by vertical translation. The sliding doors are rectangular or square in shape and slide on fixed mirrors normally of the same size. For this the ventilation usually corresponds to half of the illuminating surface. Instead, the ventilation can be controlled by locking the door in the desired position.
This type of
vertical sliding window is also called
latch or
guillotine (and is rarely used in Italy).
The sliding door cannot exceed certain dimensions due to possible maneuvering problems and maximum weight limits that can be balanced by means of cables, springs and pulleys (even if the latter are no longer used due to the maintenance problems they involved).
Vertical sliding windows have the advantage of not creating clutter inside the rooms, they do not create problems for the darkening systems but the maintenance and cleaning of the surfaces are difficult if not carried out from the outside.
Advantages of the vertical sliding door window:
Ease of maneuvering of the doors;
Excellent ventilation thanks to the adjustable opening;
Compatible with internal and external shading systems.
Defects of the vertical sliding door window:
- Forbidden passage;
- View obstructed by horizontal crosspieces;
- Cleaning and maintenance from the outside;
- Poor air and water tightness.
Coplanar sliding door
Sliding sash windows with a particular geometry of the opening movement, the
coplanar sliding sash foresees an opening movement in which the sash is pulled towards the inside of the room. It is then made to translate horizontally in front of a fixed portion of the window itself.
The track that allows this double movement is the same as the one used in the falignameria to make wardrobes with sliding doors.
Folding door
This system also provides for a double movement: rotation around a vertical axis and horizontal translation. The system consists of at least two doors connected to each other by hinges.
The door changes definition depending on where the pivot for rotation on the vertical axis is positioned:
- Folding door : the pin is placed in correspondence with the corner of the door;
- Accordion door : if the pin is in a central position on the lower crosspiece of the door.
The ventilation performance is optimal because it is possible to adjust the degree of opening of the doors. Usually there are no problems in the event of sudden gusts of wind but I have often seen water and air infiltrations due to the reduced number of fastening points to the fixed frame and the large number of hinges between the doors. However, if the trolley and the sliding rails used are of quality and are kept clean, the maneuver is simple.
The folding door is not usually used in conjunction with shading systems and requires access from the outside for cleaning and maintenance.
I recommend this system for the construction of
large-sized French windows and sliding windows , in situations where air and water tightness requirements (not to mention thermal savings) are of secondary importance.
The materials of which the sliding windows are made
We have seen the prices of sliding windows and their advantages. Now I will tell you about the
main materials they are made of. What are the advantages and disadvantages of the materials you can choose from?
I'll start by telling you that internal sliding windows are available in 3 materials:
Sliding windows in pvc
PVC sliding windows last a long time even with little maintenance.
The sliding windows are placed in a plastic frame, light and insulating in different finishes: there are in fact various colors that allow you to create modern and refined styles.
Another advantage is that pvc sliding windows are priced below average.
Sliding wooden windows
Sliding wooden windows are in my opinion the most elegant choice. Wood conveys a feeling of welcome, warmth and refinement. Furthermore, wood creates elegance.
Obviously, a wooden sliding window is perfect for a rustically furnished environment. However, it requires high maintenance compared to pvc sliding windows. The price of wooden sliding windows is higher than pvc.
Sliding aluminum windows
Sliding aluminum windows are the ones that have the most modern look. Equipped with high thermal insulation which reduces energy consumption.
Aluminum is a light material that can be lifted and slides easily and lasts a long time. Being a metal, it must be equipped with a thermal break frame and double glazing.
The price of sliding aluminum windows, as we have seen before, is the highest. However, it is an investment to be evaluated in the long term.
